Packit
A better way to pack for a trip.
User Research & Product Design
When conducting user research in the travel space we identified packing as a key stressor that high frequency travelers face when planning for an upcoming trip. With Packit we aim to enable user generated packing lists to help people pack for similar types of trips and take the stress off of packing.
User Research
We conducted 10 user interviews with high frequency travelers to discover needs, frustrations and pain points with regard to traveling.
We discovered three main insights that can help people have a better travel experience
1. Packing causes anxiety
From our interviews we discovered that travelers often stress about packing. They are worried about not packing enough or packing too much. They fear that they might be missing some key item, and generally wish they could better remember from past trips what they will need and what they won’t.
2. People like emotional support while packing
In our interviews we also discovered that people get inspiration from others, and generally call a friend or ask a family member to help them pack for a trip. Many times they just feel that they need reassurance that they are making the right choice. They feel that it is easier for them to handle a stressful situation when they have social support.
3. Travel is stressful
Though many people love to travel, they find traveling itself is very stressful. From traffic to the airport, to long wait times at the airport; not to mention uncomfortable plane rides and living out of a suitcase, people generally feel that they wish the travel experience could feel a little bit more like home.
From our research we compiled a persona to help us visualize our target user

Summary
Nikki is a professional model who lives in the Lower East Side, but is often traveling around the world for shoots. Work usually pays and arranges her travel. She is a high frequency traveler, traveling around the world 30-40 times a year.
Reframing The Problem
Nikki has travel often for work and wants to make sure she has what she needs on her trip. How might we help frequent travelers like Nikki make better choices while packing and also remove stress from the decision making process?
Design Studio
From our research we determined that Nikki needs packing recommendations, reassurance, and the ability to easily recall what she packed on previous trips.
In order to transition from the research to design phase we began a process of sketching out various ideas and using post it notes to prioritize features for our design. A MoSCoW map was a helpful process in prioritizing which features we should focus on in our design.
MoSCoW Map
By placing design features along a matrix of Must, Should, Could, Won’t, we were able to prioritize features such as packing recommendations and the ability to save packing lists and the expense of features like automatic carry-on gate delivery that weren’t as necessary.

Next Steps
We recommend to revise the Hi-Fi prototype and conduct further usability tests. After we go live we will then track key success metrics.
